Job Summary

Working directly with the Chief Representative of CWF Beijing Office, the Associate Director will support and guide the work of Office as it expands rapidly. In addition to support overall management and strategy development, the Associate Director will lead the portfolio of the grants to foster an enabling environment for climate actions in China including strategic communication, finance and field building. The Associate Director will develop strategies in cooperation with the relevant Programs of CWF, identify potential partner and grantee organizations, do oversight and due diligence on our grantmaking, define and evaluate metrics for program performance, contribute to expanding the field of funders in these areas, and build a cohesive coalition of stakeholders through effective communication and capacity building. The Associate Director will report to the Chief Representative of CWF Beijing Office.

Essential Tasks

The Associate Director is responsible for the following duties:

  • Support the Chief Representative of CWF Beijing Office with overall management, including budgeting, planning, reporting, strategy development and implementation.
  • Lead the portfolio on enabling environment which covers strategic communication, finance and field building, including:
  • Developing its strategy in consultation and coordination with relevant programs inside of CWF and other key stakeholders and funders.
  • Aligning portfolio strategy with overall office budget with and ensuring timely disbursement of grants.
  • Identifying and develop new grantees and managing the whole grant-making process.
  • Developing and evaluating metrics of the overall office and the portfolio on enabling environment.
  • Functioning as a point of contact and representative of the portfolio on enabling environment.
  • Coordinate activities and knowledge exchange among coalition partners through written communications and convening online and in-person events.
  • Prepare and deliver communications including grant reports, presentations to internal and external audiences, blog posts, and other written and analytic materials.
  • Manage and supervise support staff as assigned.
  • Build effective relationships with key stakeholders in China as well as global partners.
  • Other tasks may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

The successful applicant will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree or equivalent (environment, finance, communication or other related areas). A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in combination with additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Strong program and project management skills.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in a program or project management role with at least 3 years of experience in a related field.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of ClimateWorks Foundation.
  • Resourcefulness, good judgement, and a commitment to excellence and integrity.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently (both virtually and in-person) with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to take early or late calls to accommodate partners in different time zones as needed
