Cloud Infrastructure Engineer -Portugal

Job title: Cloud Infrastructure Engineer -Portugal

Company: Wunderman Thompson Commerce

Job description: Cloud Infrastructure Engineers required to join our new office based in Lisbon Portugal as we grow and expand our capabilities further.

Who We Are:

At Wunderman Thompson, we exist to inspire growth for ambitious brands. Part creative agency, part consultancy and part technology company, our experts provide end-to-end capabilities at a global scale to deliver inspiration across the entire brand and customer experience.

We are 20,000 strong in 90 markets around the world; our people bring together creative storytelling, diverse perspectives, inclusive thinking, and highly specialized vertical capabilities to drive growth for our clients. We offer deep expertise across the entire customer journey, including communications, commerce, consultancy, CRM, CX, data, production, and technology.

We are part of WPP, recognised as a Leader in The Forrester Wave™: Commerce Services, Q1 2021.

About the job:

Due to continued growth our capabilities in Portugal are expanding and we are looking for Cloud Dvelopers to join our team. This is a really exciting time to join us and work with some of the worlds best known brands and retailers such as Bosch, DFS, Johnson & Johnson, MAC, Nestlé, Sainsbury’s, Selfridges, Shell, Specialized, Tempur and Tiffany & Co.

The successful candidate will be responsible for modelling, developing and maintaining applications and services for the evolution of the eCommerce platform.

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineers deliver infrastructure solutions as part of an experienced cross-disciplinary Cloud Engineering team. (We’re also Cloud Developers and Data Engineers). We have a developer mindset and deliver our infrastructure through code, holding ourselves to the same quality and code standards as the rest of the team.

Each of our Client projects is slightly different but would typically need you to use your hands-on experience to drive the design, development and deployment of business applications at scale, usually in a Commerce environment.

On a typical project you would:

  • Work with our solution architecture teams to identify the best platform technologies and process for our clients
  • Act as a technical authority to engage and steer client discussions on best practice and risk mitigation
  • Ensure security considerations are implemented, tested and maintained.
  • Build in Observability, collecting metrics & providing visualisations to be used by our Managed Services teams
  • Developing, maintaining, and enhancing design standards and patterns for infrastructure and system components
  • Supporting and mentoring the other members of the team, from code reviews to Lunch and Learn sessions.
  • Provide guidance to other projects who are preparing to start their Cloud transformation (for us, hosting a site on an EC2 instance is not necessarily “in the cloud” – but we’ll help you get there!)

We actively look to improve and promote our Cloud practice internally as well as externally:

  • Developing, maintaining, and enhancing design standards and patterns for infrastructure and system components
  • Supporting and mentoring the other members of the team, from code reviews to Lunch and Learn sessions.
  • Provide guidance to other projects who are preparing to start their Cloud transformation (for us, hosting a site on an EC2 instance is not necessarily “in the cloud” – but we’ll help you get there!)

You…

Talented, enthusiastic, focused, eye for detail, professional. Keen to learn and to challenge for smarter ways of doing things; a team player proud of their work who wants to share it. You like working in a fast-paced environment and are ready to inspire outstanding online shopper experiences for consumers and brands, no matter what product, service, sector, device or channel!

You will have a customer-first mindset, with the maturity and initiative to do what it takes keep our clients happy, including some working at client locations. When our clients win – we win!

We need you to be really great at:

  • Recent hands on experience of building cloud infrastructure in one of the main Clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • The ability to communicate and explain technical concepts at appropriate levels for your team and to clients.

A strong understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of:

  • Infrastructure and Configuration as Code
  • Safe Deployment strategies and CI/CD
  • Cloud-based and Cloud-native system design
  • Observability
  • Developer Experience
  • DevOps and SRE
  • InfoSec and SIEM

(Your knowledge might come from practical experience, or from your research and education)

If you know any of this even better:

Our clients use the technologies that are right for them, so we’re interested in talking to people who have worked with different technologies. We’re looking for candidates who can demonstrate skills from this list, and who have curiosity and want to learn more:

  • Experience in a Commerce environment – HCL Commerce, Magento Commerce, SAP Hybris, CommerceTools
  • Familiarity with multiple programming languages – Typescript, Java, Groovy, Golang, PHP – and their testing frameworks
  • Hands-on with AWS – Route53, ACM, API Gateway, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS, ECR/ECS/EKS, RDS/Aurora, Cognito, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, Developer Tooling
  • Hands-on with GCP – Cloud DNS, Endpoints, Functions, Storage, Firestore/Bigtable, Pub/Sub, GKE, Operations (StackDriver)
  • Hands-on with Azure – Azure DNS, APIM, Functions and Serverless Compute, Azure Storage, Cosmos DB, App Services/Container Instances/AKS, Service Bus and Queue Storage, Log Analytics, Azure Monitor
  • Practical experience with GitHUb Actions Workflows or Azure Devops Pipelines, Repos and Artifacts
  • Experience with Kubernetes, and familiarity with differing Cloud implementations
  • Hands-on with Terraform – familiarity with Terragrunt, Terratest
  • Experience with Chef, Puppet, Salt, or Ansible in production environments
  • Management of Automation Tooling – Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab CI
  • Experience with automated testing tools – Selenium, JMeter, Lighthouse
  • Strong scripting skills – Powershell, Python, Bash, Ruby, Perl

We evaluate and adopt new technologies all the time, so if you know about something we’ve not listed here please tell us about it and why it would be great for our team.
