Job description: The purpose of the role is to provide techno-financial modelling support for green- and brownfields projects. This role reports into the Senior Principal Studies and Scenarios.


  • Business and technical stakeholder engagement to understand the project requirements, timelines and gather input information from various disciplines
  • Business process research and analysis in order to define business and project objectives, plan and structure the financial model and identify the inputs requirements
  • Development or sourcing of business financial modelling tools and or software for agile and effective modelling
  • Strategic problem solving, identifying the optimal solutions considering capital, timing, production, and other constraint modelling in Microsoft Excel.
  • Supporting the Senior Principal: Studies and Scenarios in evaluation of project and scenarios
  • Advanced financial modelling in Microsoft Excel
  • Financial modelling reflecting the business processes and evaluating the project/investment’s viability during the exploration, concept, pre-feasibility and/or feasibility stages, using discounted unleveraged free cash flow (DUFCF) analysis
  • Option analysis and scenario testing, determining the most optimal investment option or combination of investment options, during the various phases
  • Post implementation performance evaluation of an implemented project, with the addition of waterfall diagrams to track performance.
  • Reporting on methodology, assumptions, results, and recommendations
  • User enablement and results preparation
  • Tariff modelling to determine optimal charges
  • Monte Carlo simulations on Microsoft Excel financial models, to determine probabilistic outcomes, considering risk and uncertainty.
  • Identification of key value drivers through probabilistic and static sensitivity analysis.
  • Budget variance analysis
  • Maintenance of business models
  • Analysis of cost reports and cost/revenue data
  • Conduct Theory of Constraints analysis and sensitivity analysis.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • A qualification in accounting related discipline
  • Tertiary qualification in a technical discipline; Engineering, Mining or the like, with a strong analytical/ financial ability
  • Post Graduate degree in Management will be advantageous, especially a MBA
  • 5 years technical and management experience in the process and mining industry with a proven track record.
  • Demonstrated strategic, detailed and analytic thinking
  • Ability to quickly assemble and interpret data to actionable outputs
  • Demonstrated capacity to make sound short- and long-term tactical decisions
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to advise on value adding opportunities to the business
  • Must have a mindset for continuous improvement Demonstrated capability in organising work, setting priorities and exercising sound independent judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple stakeholders at the Operations and Regional Office to deliver an output.
  • Ability to accurately model single to multi-faceted projects and business cases, and advise on viability
  • Review and challenge assumptions, ability to vet and support assumptions in financial model
  • Ensure completeness of data, assumptions and inputs into the financial model
  • Facilitate problem solving with project managers and project teams.
  • Ensure that all planned capital is evaluated in a consistent manner and ranked according to selected metrics.
  • Perform capital efficiency and optimisation by reviewing the business, process and design aspects of capital projects.
  • Strong ability to lead and work effectively with people
  • Well-developed industry networks
  • Preparedness to undertake extensive business travel
